Hi, Guys How’s your spring going? We’ve been going to the beach more often due to the nice weather. Sitting under the sun is relaxing and therapeutic. I was recently introduced to Carrot Dogs by Tabitha Brown. She made the process look simple and her family seemed to really enjoy it. I am thrilled I made this recipe for my family.
First of all, Being on a plant based diet has shown me that creations in food is Endless. I insist you create this recipe at home and give it a taste test with all your favorite toppings before you count this recipe out. The seasoning is what makes your dishes delicious 😃
The basics to this recipe is simple:
cook carrots that are flavored to taste smoky and salty and place them in a hot dog bun or and a bun that you choose. They’re actually a thing that has been around for a while, and some may have tried already. I’d say that this is new to me and this recipe will go into our family recipe book. These Carrot Dogs are one of the Awesome surprises I have experienced on a plant-based journey thus far.
Here is a quick video of how we made them
SImple and easy right? Let me tell you how to create these carrot dogs to satisfy your craving. Simplicity and eating healthy has become my focus. I strive to have more plant based recipes and less time in the kitchen to indulge in my other desires.
How to make carrot dogs, given to you in words and pictures.
- Grabs some carrots. Try your best to find the thickest ones, because you’ll carve them into hot dog shapes and you don’t want a skinny carrot dog ,do you?
- Line up a hot dog bun next to the carrot or just use whatever buns you have. You can cut into medium length or length of the bun. If you want it to stick out on each end, by all means, cut it longer.
- Peel the carrot into a hot dog shape or just peel the top layer of the skin off, rounding the edges with the peeler if you’d like. Not to worry if your carrots aren’t the perfect shape. They will still taste just as delicious
- Mix up the marinade, and place carrots inside the marinade and let sit for 3-5 minutes then pour the marinade and carrots in a saucepan. Bring to a boil for 10 minutes then cover and reduce heat and let simmer for another 5- 10 minutes ,until just fork-tender. Trust me you will want a carrot dog that is firm than one that is mushy.
Are you wondering what’s in the marinade?
It’s how the carrots get their smoky and salty flavor. The marinade includes water, soy sauce, liquid smoke, maple syrup, ketchup, and A1 sauce. Yes A1 Steak sauce is vegan! Since I discovered this I have added another staple to our sauce collection.
I was serious when I said that these are easy! These are simpler than the majority of the other recipes I have created. I soak the carrots 5- 10 minutes before cooking and others have marinated it for over an hour even overnight. I am all for letting the carrots sit in the marinade but when you are focusing on cutting down time and getting food on the table then you choose your time that best fits your needs when creating this recipe.
You can have carrot dogs ready in 30 minutes, because you will cook the carrots in the marinade.
These carrot Dogs sure do look appetizing
The toppings are the best part when it comes to eating carrot dogs? I like to go all-in and add Ranch and Hot Sauce with chili and coleslaw on the side so I can scoop and Eat it that way! This gives me control over how much coleslaw I eat at that given time.
Toppings inspiration below
~ Coleslaw! I recently discovered how to create a tasty coleslaw at home. I would make a big batch and pair it with almost every dish that we had. My Family would often tell me that they don’t think the coleslaw fit certain meals we ate. 😂 That coleslaw recipe was delicious! I will share that recipe soon. Keep a lookout!
~Chili, Who has a Carrot dog without chili? In the Videos I Made lentil chili the night before. We all know that the chili is always better the second day after the flavors have a chance to marinate together.
~ Vegan Mac and Cheese. Yes, we love some cheese mac n cheese. I Created a BOMB recipe not too long ago.
I believe you should try all your favorite toppings at least once.
The weather has been great for us this Spring and Summer is coming soon. Let’s get out there and make some Carrot Dogs. Great Idea to try, Place them on the grill. What Toppings are you going to put on your Carrot Dogs? Leave a comment here and tag me @ Bustafreebre on Instagram when you make them.
